The Harvard was an advanced trainer used by the RCAF during WW2.This aircraft saw many variations in its name and designation. The Canadian Harvard is one of the best known of these and trained many pilots to fly fighter aircrraft in combat. The USAAF designation was the AT- Texan and the US Navy was the SNJ.Although Canada and the US used the Harvard as a trainer only, there were some foreign air forces that employed it as a frontline fighter equipped with wing mounted machine guns.Truly a testament to the great design of this aircraft.Model author unknown.Paintjob by Reg Longman and Panel by Johan Lemmer |
USAAF Aluetian Campaign Aircraft |

Here is an example of what the RCAF flew in combat over the Aleutians alongside the USAAF in 1942-43.Note the US serial number on the tail and the US Green Camo. The original Kittyhawks that 111 squadron had were almost all lost in bad weather and failing radios on thier flight out to Unmak where they had been assigned. Some were lost in the ocean and 4 others slammed into a Mountain.Out of seven planes lost 5 pilots were killed including the Squadron Leader Kerwin. He was replaced by Ken Boomer .At this point, the USAAF was short of experienced fighter pilots and handed over some of their surplus P-40Ks to the Squadron bringing them back to full strength. This one has the markings of Squadron Leader Ken Boomer aircraft.Boomer shot down a Japanese "Rufe" over Kiska on September 26, 1942.This was the first combat "kill" for an RCAF pilot over North America. Also note the Yellow-Orange Fuselage roundell ring has also been removed. It was felt that it would be mistaken for a Japanese rising sun. This plane was designed by Ed and Reg from Duxford Legends.Updated 9/3/02 |

The North American B-25 served in all theaters in WW2 including the Aluetians where it largely replaced B-26 units there.Made famous by the Doolittle Raid on Japan early in the war,the B-25 was a very versatile and rugged airplane that held up well in the punishing Aluetian conditions. This is the stock B-25 made flyable with the markings of the 406 Bomb Squadron that was based at Adak and Amchitka. This planes uses gauges from the B-24 gauges pak.If you have them already you wont need to download them again. |
