Aleutian Island Airbases and Mesh Terrain

This scenery gives you 7 bases in the Aleutian Islands chain.RCAF Squadrons were stationed at many of these bases along with the USAAF and USN.Cold Bay,Fort Glenn,Adak and Amchitka all saw RCAF Personel. The Aleutian climate is some of the worst conditions for flying with constant fog and williwaw storms that did considerable damage to aircraft and runways. The battles against weather were worse than fighting the Japanese. This scenery has been updated with Mesh terrain 3/20/02.A separate folder for Adak is forthcoming.

The following two Scenerys are required to be eligible for promotion to Cadet and possible transfer
Adak AAFB
The USAAF base at Adak was home to both the RCAF 111 and 14 Squadrons early in the Aleutian campaign. The first RCAF combat missions where staged from here.Flights from Adak to Kiska in P-40s stretched fuel capacities to the limit.Later the squadrons moved up to Amchitka closer in to Kiska. You need the Aleutians scenery below to properly view Adak.

RAF Hurn
After  the Aleutian campaign 111 Squadron was assigned to the European theater and redesignated 440 because the RAF already had a 111 squadron. The RAF base in Hurn England was the second station for the RCAF 440 in Europe. After a stay first at Ayr, Scotland flying Hawker Hurricanes the Squadron moved to Hurn where they turned in their Hurricanes for Typhoons. Many Typhoon missions were staged from Hurn and various RCAF,RAF and USAAF squadrons were stationed here.On March 30, 1944 W/C Davidson led the 440's first European mission on an anti-shipping sweep over the channel Islands that originated from Hurn. This excellant scenery was created by our own Gunner.

Paramushiro
This will add another base to your Aleutian folder so you must have the Aleutians folder installed first for this install to work. Its the Japanese base at Paramushiro in the Kurile  island chain. The Kuriles are northeast of Japan and south of Siberia. The base at Paramushiro was the closest base to the Japanese held Aleutian Islands of Attu and Kiska. Most resupply units by air and sea originated from this base. This auto-install places files into your Aleutians folder so you wont need to activate it with the scenery library.ADF at base is 815.This scenery also includes Mesh terrain of the surrounding area.

Ferry Bases
This series of bases are needed for those of you who like long range navigation flights. The bases are located around the world with special bases in Canada and the US as starting points for the Ferry flights. During WW2 large bomber aircraft were "ferryed" across the oceans to the various theaters of war. These bases provide connecting points and fuel  stops to complete long flights. As we stage more ferrying flights more bases may be added. These bases were created around Mesh Terrain so you'll need that to go with this. After installation check inside the folder for a text file containing a full listing of bases and ADF .

Ferry Bases 2.0  -  Northwest Bases
A great scenery set by 428 Echo Gulf includes 12 bases spread across the Canadian Northwest and Alaska. Echo has done a marvelous job of  it and he has included some of his own objects special to this region that he has created himself. Three more bases have been added to Echos  for a total of 15. Now flights across the Canadian Rockies can be made and connecting bases out to the Aleutians bases are there too. This scenery was built around the 6th Group Mesh terrain so you you should have that to properly view this but it will still work if you dont. The files for this scenery will dump into the Ferry bases folder. If you already have Ferry bases 1.0 you wont need to activate this in the scenery library. Make sure you install Pat Bay and Annette before you install this so your ADF list is properly updated.
